This week in Broadcast Technology, we learned how to handle the camera equipment, and how to record and edit properly. Mr. Goble taught us how to use an HD camera, a tripod, and other necessary camera equipment. As for filming, one of the most important things I learned was how to take a variety of shots, wide, medium, tight, etc. This knowledge will be the foundation for all filming that I will have to do in this class, so it's very important to know these basics. After filming, we edited two different projects, the "Circus Wagon" and the "6 Shots." We edited these projects on Final Cut Pro X, which is what we will use to edit our more complex projects in the future, so it's very important to know how to use the different features of that software. Doing these projects not only taught us how to edit on Final Cut Pro X, but we got to practice filming and handling the different camera equipment. Honestly, I liked doing this unit because I thought it was very interactive and fun. However, if I did this again, I would focus more on the rule of thirds, which we also learned about at the beginning of the unit. This is where the subject of our shot is not centered, but is in one of the thirds of the shot. Last week, my class continued working on different areas of our television studio. Two of which were camera operator and CG. During my time working at the camera operator, I learned how to create a focused, quality shot of the two anchors, Zakiyyah and Essete. Although I enjoyed this job, I also enjoyed working as CG. During this station, I followed the commands of the director, and was in charge of what to display on the screen. It was a big responsibility to fulfill and to be able to do, but I liked it. In the future, working at either the camera operator station, or CG station would be fun and I would love to work on them more in the future.
