I learned so much during the first semester being a Broadcast Technology student. I liked learning all about camera equipment and editing softwares like Final Cut Pro X. It was really fun to get to make these cool, simple videos! There wasn’t much that I disliked, but I wish we got to do more in the television studio because I thought that was very fun. My favorite project was the Six Word Story project because I had fun filming the shots, and getting to edit them with lots of freedom and hardly any restrictions. One thing I might have done differently would be going out of my comfort zone more. There were many times I felt like I might have been doing the expected material, but it would have been fun to go more above and beyond. Broadcast Technology II might be a class I would take in the future because I had a fun time in this class and would like to get to work on more complex projects. I’d like to add that this was a class I looked forward to coming to because it was very chill, and I, again, had lots of fun!

Throughout my whole Humans of Ladue project, I've learned many new things about using Final Cut Pro X, Interviewing techniques, and B-Roll filming. I had a lot of fun being creative with the different shots and editing styles. Since my last blog post, I added B-Roll to my video. B-Roll is the footage that is taken, composed of all different shots, that represents what the person being interviewed is being interviewed about. I was able to extend my knowledge on using Final Cut Pro X because this is the most complex, long project we have edited so far! As stated earlier, I also learned many new things about interviews. I learned how to set up and film a short interview, along with B-Roll, which is something I have never done before! Lauren Vanlandingham is a leader of Sparkle, which is an all inclusive dance team at Ladue! Catherine, Julia, and I interviewed her for our short interview project. For the project, we used our previous knowledge of using camera equipment, and composed several questions to ask Lauren. After, we set up a time to interview her, and we filmed the whole thing. After that, we transferred all of the footage into Final Cut Pro, and used our previous knowledge of using this editing software to edit the clips and to make everything balanced. One of the challenges for me for this project was trying to figure out which shots to cut out, since we could only use 3-5 soundbites. However, I loved this unit because I love Lauren as a teammate, and it was really interesting to get some behind-the-scenes footage! |
